Hello!
We are Bungo Sign Co, an award winning traditional hand painted sign studio in Glasgow, Scotland
At Bungo Sign Co, we specialise in creating high-quality hand painted signs that bring character, craftsmanship, and a timeless aesthetic to every project. Since 2022, we've worked in Glasgow and throughout Scotland to bring life and colour to the streets with hand painted signs.
Our work supports a wide range of clients—including architects, trade groups, designers, independent shops and commercial organisations—who value the artistry and impact of bespoke signage. Whether it's for a heritage restoration, a branded environment, or a one-of-a-kind installation, our team combines traditional techniques with a deep understanding of visual communication to deliver signage that truly stands out.
Fusing traditional techniques with contemporary typography, we work with our clients to create vibrant signs that reflect their business on any surface, large or small, interior or exterior.

Our Shopfront
We moved in to our shop in Shawlands, Glasgow southside in 2023. It is the first of its kind in Scotland, and the only women owned in the UK. It is primarily used as a work space for us to fabricate and paint signs so is only open to the public or clients by appointment. We also use our shop to host signwriting workshops – visit our 'Workshops' page to book!

Visit our 'Services' page to see what we can offer you and your business and the 'Work With Us' page to send an inquiry. We look forward to working with you!

Our Backgrounds
Rachel studied graphic design at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating in 2016. During her degree she had the opportunity to study at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, USA. It was here she was taught the foundations of hand lettering and calligraphy during an intensive semester-long course. With this knowledge she returned to Scotland to pursue signwriting.
She started her own business in 2017 after an informal apprenticeship with Ciaran Globël of Globël Signs. Her clients are mainly independent Scottish companies, but she has also completed projects for larger clients such as H&M, the Scottish BAFTAs, Adobe, Innis & Gunn, Dior and more.

Hana was working in hospitality when she found her love for hand lettering and design. She was continually asked to do chalkboards and window displays as she had a keen eye for design and layout.
She was largely self taught until she took the opportunity to travel to Minnesota in the USA to work with celebrated sign painter and teacher Mike Meyer in 2019. She spent a month traveling across the United States, meeting many more painters and learning as much as she could. She returned to Glasgow to put her new skills to the test.

After spending several years working solo in Glasgow the two painters met in 2021. Hana and Rachel then founded sign painting collective Bungo Sign Co in 2022. In the same year they created and hosted 'Burds of the Brush' in Glasgow – a meet of women, trans and non-binary painters which has become a global movement in the male dominated world of sign painting.
In 2023 they opened their first shopfront premise on Springhill Gardens and have worked together ever since.
